A Doctor Is A Human Too

By Adela Beasley

This is a world populated by people. People who want to be OK and be loved by other people. When one person gets sick they seek out a doctor. They have the power to heal that persons ailment and usually to make them feel better completely. There are times too however that even though a doctor may be able to fix one persons problems they sometimes create new ones.

Once we realize this we can hopefully approach them a bit easier and get just what we need from them. What we need from them is help for whatever it is that ails us. We need them to provide us with the care and the tools that we need to fix whatever is broken with ourselves. Sometimes all this requires is a person telling another person what to do.

Too many people go to their doctor and wait for them to start telling them things. Then when they leave the office they are upset that they did not discuss this or they did not ask that. This is your job during these visits. If you do not take control of the visit then they will and that is not what is going to help you.

What you need to do first is to think about what it is you are going to see them about. If you have a previous issue or something specific that is bothering you then you need to bring that up. You cannot hope they will find it and ask you questions about the ailment. If there is not anything wrong currently then you need to consider if there is anything that you are going to worry about in the future.

When going to a medical visit a patient needs to be not just well informed but prepared to ask all the questions they have about what is wrong with them. The patient needs to do some research about their issue and about their medical history. They need to realize that the more information the doctor has the better they can help.

Sometimes however we are going into a situation where we are waiting for either some good news or some bad news and we are not sure which we are going to get. In these cases I have seen some doctors who are very good at putting people at ease and some that seem to just not care at all.

When they show that they do not care about the patient it usually causes more anxiety because now the patient feels that if something is wrong they cannot count on the medical professional to help them fix their issue. After all that is all the patient wants.

Nothing has ever gotten accomplished in my experience by completely losing control. This is why when you discuss your issues with your doctor you need to be stern, polite, but assertive. You need to let them know what is wrong and what you expect them to do. Let them know what you need them to do for you that way they can do whatever it is they can to help.
