When we found ourselves in the portion of our lives where we began bringing up young, impressionable children, our 3 weren't permitted to make use of the big "S" word. No sir, the big "S" word was not allowed in our home. Our children weren't allowed to call one another or anyone else-"stupid." Yep, you might just feel that there are many other types of words that need to be prohibited in a family before that particular one, and there actually were, but "stupid" was definitely one that wasn't allowed.
That's one particular reason that I got to thinking about that word in regards to my personal life and discipline patterns a a week or so ago. At 54, there are a number of prescription medicines that I take when I need them. However, the most important one, the medication that I am truly instructed to take daily, is the medication that I am the most likely to forget. It's called Amlodipine, which is quite commonly given for high blood pressure(hypertension) .
Here's the deal. My level of high blood pressure is not exceptionally high, or in the typical "dangerous zone," nevertheless, for the "Silent Killer' that we know hypertension to be, it's nothing except "stupid" for a guy like me to fail to put a very high priority on taking that tiny pill to make certain that my BP levels remain at a level of safety. Hypertension can certainly cause numerous terrible things, including stroke, heart attack, and much more. We simply cannot play around with it.
So, why am I more likely to forget the amlodipine than other medications? Well, it's because those high BP symptoms are not crying out. I have a small disc problem in my lower back for which I have prescription medication, and when it acts up, it really will let me know about it. But, this is not necessarily so when it concerns my blood pressure. It's a sneaky condition. With very many conditions, the warning signs are certainly going to scream to you that it is time for your medication. But nope, my high blood pressure doesn't pull on my shirt sleeve and remind me.
So, duh ... stupid me. Why don't I put a reminder on my phone or something like I would do for many other essential tasks? That way I won't forget that extremely important medication. It just isn't that difficult! But, it's really important.
So, okay, I still expect that my kids do not call each other stupid. However, this is certainly one occasion in which I suppose their father has certainly drifted into that classification occasionally. High blood pressure is very dangerous. Let's follow our doctors instructions and do the deal. Let's save our lives.
