Eating Disorder Help Tips For Individuals

By Jocelyn Davidson

There are certainly a lot of emotions that could be felt by people each and every second of every single day. These emotions may either be positive or negative ones. It would be good if they will be feeling positive emotions every day. However, that is not the case. Negative emotions are sometimes affecting their lives more.

These individuals may develop eating sickness brought about by these negative emotions. Their self confidence and their self esteem will drop and they will be affected. There are eating disorder help guides that you can use if family member, family friend, or a person that you love most is experiencing these kinds of sickness such as binge eating, bulimia, or anorexia.

There are a lot of warning signs that might tell you about your loved one having eating disorders. They are usually obsessed with counting how many calories are in their food, dieting even if they are already thin, exercising a lot, going to bathrooms after every meal. They also usually take laxative pills, have unexplained weight loss or gain, and make a lot of excuses to avoid eating.

You need to discuss this to your loved one. You need to tell him that you worry for his health. You should let him know that you understand the things that he is going through and that you can guide and comfort him. Most patients still in the early stages of this disorder are usually motivated to cure their own sickness.

You should never give comments about the way he looks. In most cases, he is aware of his own weight already and does not want to be constantly reminded of his looks. Compliments should not given since he will be obsessing more on his body weigh and his image.

You should never demand that they change almost immediately. If you do, they will try to rebel and will not try to help themselves. This change may take time and should be done on their own terms. If they try to change immediately, it may cause adverse effects on their health, instead.

You need to encourage them to manage their emotions in a healthy way. You need to provide encouragement to these people as that is the most that they need. It will power them to change and treat themselves from these disorders.

If you have already done all the talks that you know, it could be time for you to ask professional help for this individual. These services are being offered to the public by lots of clinics and hospitals at varying costs. Included in these treatments are residential treatments, support groups, counseling, and therapy. Lots of medical practitioners are specializing in helping them in getting over the negative feelings.

However, there are also cases where hospitalization may be needed. Hospitalization may be needed in cases where the person is already dangerously malnourished, severely depressed and is already suicidal, suffering from complications, and getting worse even if he is undergoing treatments. Whatever the case may be, treating an eating disorder will certainly take time. You need to be patient and compassionate during these times.
