Regeneration Of Cells As A Cancer Research Focus

By Robert Sutter

An article that was posted on Zee News went into detail about a topic that could become a great one in cancer research. Keep in mind that brain cells are the ones most impacted when it comes to neurological conditions and being able to regenerate them has become a point of discussion. However, is it possible that the study talked about can eventually bring better findings to the surface? One has to wonder whether this idea will prove itself to be effective in the long term.

Cancer research, for so many years, have put such methods as chemo and radiation therapy to use. They are the most standard methods, so it's clear that they're going to be utilized but there are setbacks. Radiation, in particular, has the potential of destroying cells within the brain if it is done enough, which is unfortunate. However, it's possible that more findings have come to the surface and, judging by how much potential they house, they deserve the attention of organizations like Voices against Brain Cancer.

The study that the article went into detail about reported on how a study was done at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine by Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, M.D. It was done in order to see how neural stem cells, where new brain cells originate, function. Utilizing mice, it was found that said stem cells are actually resistant to radiation. The reason why this is so important is because they can be brought from their hibernation-like state in order to create new cells in order to replace the ones that have been damaged.

There was another aspect that seized my attention and it was how different patients could potentially be helped thanks to this method. The article said that not only would brain cancer patients find themselves assisted but those with other neurological conditions may find themselves helped, too. After all, this is meant for conditions in the brain, the organ of which potentially being damaged over time. This means that patients with Parkinson's, for example, can find themselves helped thanks to the methods associated with this.

To say that there is a lot of information waiting to be uncovered in cancer research is probably an understatement. After all, there is so much attention that can be given to this particular field that I don't think many people truly understand just how much there is. There are stories being published every day when it comes to this field. This only makes me that much more confident that better results will continually be seen and that findings will never stop making themselves known.
